New Vogue Dances: Tangoette, La Bomba, Tango Terrific
63For an Introduction to New Vogue Dance:
There are 3 recognised competition foxtrots in the New Vogue style of dance. The approximate order of increasing difficulty they are:
- Tangoette
- Tango Terrific
- La Bomba
The dramatic tango works well as a New Vogue dance. The tangoette is danced exclusively in shadow position with the woman dancing in front of the man. The dance consists primarily of tango walks and points which makes it a great introduction to learning the standard ballroom Tango. The Tango Terrific is danced in extended hold at arms length at the start and has lots of dramatic lines with the women stepping away and back into the man. The same foot lunge is again a standard Tango move which is readily learnt when learning the Tango Terrific. The La Bomba is by far the most difficult tango. The last part of the sequence is entirely oversways and lines which again once achieved in La Bomba, where there is no option to hold a line a little longer to recover one's balance, are much easier in the ballroom version of Tango!

This young lady is not a particularly great dancer but at least clearly shows all three New Vogue style Tangos. She is dancing with her instructor for a medal. The music is Roxanne from Moulon Rouge which is a brave choice as it is really more a Argentine Tango or even Paso Doble rather than a New Vogue Tango piece!
She does alternate the 3 dances around a fair bit and dances for over 4 minutes so you may have to play it a couple of times to understand where one dance ends and another starts! The dances in order with the timings are as follows: Tangoette(0.34 - 1.10) La Bomba (1.10-143) Tangoette (1.43- 2.07) Tango Terrific (2.07-2.40) Tango (Ballroom) (2.40-3.12) Tangoette (3.12-3.41) La Bomba (part) (3.41-4.12) Tango Terrific (4.12-4.36) Argentine Tango

I am glad to know about new Tano styles or stylettes. I wish they could call Tangoette just New York Tango. Other two anems are great to me.
Tangoette = "tiny fake tango" in my mind. lol
I love this article, and I love to watch the Tango. I didn't understand the nuances, either. Now I need to get that tango partner! Thanks for the fun, Lissie!
Tango is pretty complex and tough to learn, but once you do, it'll probably be one of your favorite hobbies. Do yourself a favor if you are thinking of taking classes - stop thinking and just GO!!!!

Hi Lissie!I love your new post. Once in a blue moon I'll watch dance competition on TV - honestly not that often - but I really enjoyed your post, the finer nuances... thought it was all just the "tango." :)
